Rob Newman M.Inst.R – Operations Director

Rob has spent all his working life in the refrigeration and air conditioning industry. Starting as an apprentice, he quickly become his employers youngest ever senior service engineer, whilst gaining his qualifications. With his innate understanding of refrigeration, Rob was soon promoted to commissioning engineer and also supervised large sophisticated projects, providing him with a broad depth of system, design and project knowledge at an early age.

Rob is our Operations Director, with responsibility for the day to day running of all matters engineering and with an overview of project design. He takes a hands on, proactive approach to business and is often be found 'out in the field' offering support to customers, service and installation engineers alike. Rob is a protagonist for apprenticeships in our industry and takes a close interest in supporting our apprentices and improvers program.

Outside of work, Rob enjoys spending time at home with his young family, socialising with friends, and can occasionally be found playing between the posts for the Newman Refrigeration Ltd football team.

John Barry – General Manager

With over 40 years in the refrigeration industry, 25 years of which he spent as owner of the hugely successful 'Morris and Young Refrigeration' (sold to worldwide giant GEA / Grenco), John doesn't mind being called a veteran of our industry! John has served on the Executive Council at the Institute of Refrigeration and has been a chairman and member of other IoR committees. He was accordingly awarded a Fellowship of the Institute of Refrigeration in recognition of his services to our industry.

After selling Morris and Young, John joined Denco, the specialist Close Control air conditioning manufacturer, to support their management buyout process. He has a common sense, pragmatic approach; he is an asset and the driving force of the back office at Newman Refrigeration Ltd. His wealth of managerial and overall experience is a crucial cog in our company processes.

In his spare time, John enjoys visits to the opera and singing with a choir, as well as spending time with his friends, family and grandchildren.

David Gough – Contracts Director

David started out his career in air conditioning and refrigeration as one of Rob Newman's apprentices! After qualifying as a fully certified engineer, he went on to spend seven years in Australia managing extremely large scale VRF air conditioning projects.

We are delighted to have David back in the UK and running our installation department. David is an exceptional contracts and projects manager with extensive and unrivalled knowledge of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning systems alike, and he is yet to be overwhelmed by the amplitude of any contract!

David is a proud family man and enjoys keeping himself fit at the gym and follows West Ham football club.

Clive Tuley - Refrigeration Technical Manager

Clive has been in the refrigeration industry for 35 years. Starting as a production engineer with world renowned Hubbard Refrigeration, he quickly progressed through the ranks achieving the position as Technical Manager before being invited to head up technical applications for Robert C Scutt, a company synonymous with high quality, sophisticated refrigeration equipment design and build.

Clive heads up our refrigeration design team; blending each customers’ needs and resource with the most appropriate technology available. An advocate in energy reduction in the cooling process, Clive likes to demonstrate the benefits of investment in the latest technology with the resultant energy saving payback; indeed we have case studies demonstrating energy saving solutions achieving 50% power use reduction.

Clive’s years of experience allows him to advise on older system upgrading, re-modelling and refurbishment.

Always aware of next generation in refrigeration innovation and the ever changing refrigerants scene, Clive has his finger firmly on the pulse!

When not at work, Clive enjoys spending time his family including his two dogs, working on the garden and DIY in the house. When time and weather allow, he will be found by the Barbeque - trying to cook.

Gareth Newman – Service Manager

Gareth has enjoyed his entire career in the refrigeration industry; from apprentice, to senior commissioning engineer for one of the UK’s foremost Supermarkets, before progressing into management.

Gareth manages our service department and passes on his knowledge from the front line to our engineers and customers alike. He also spends considerable time mentoring our apprentices. 

With his keen eye for detail and a natural customer first attitude, you can be certain that your equipment is in safe hands when you choose Gareth and Newman Refrigeration for your service and maintenance requirements.

Outside of work, Gareth enjoys spending time with his family, watching his hometown football club Ipswich Town and keeping fit.

Dan Troath – Project Manager

Dan joined Newman Refrigeration almost 10 years ago as an apprentice engineer. Since then he has qualified and made his way up the ranks from senior engineer, supervisor and onto Project Manager. 

Dan certainly knows his way around projects large and small, refrigeration and air conditioning and takes pride in delivering every project on time and within budget. 

Dan enjoys running in his spare time and you can keep an eye out for him on the TV running the London Marathon this year – We are sure he wont be too far behind Mo Farah!

Dan Green – Project Manager



At Newman Refrigeration we only employ project managers called Dan! “Dan G” has been a refrigeration engineer for 12 years, starting out as a helping hand for a friend whilst in between jobs, he fell in love with the trade straight away and began his training hands on whilst completing his college course on day release.  He joined us as a fully qualified Refrigeration Engineer over six years ago and has since progressed to Project Manager, in recognition of his hard work and dedication to the profession.

Dan oversees a variety of projects but enjoys working on large VRF/VRV projects. His favourite project to date was a large VRF installation in Torquay, “working with great engineers in The British Riviera, was a dream job”!

Outside of work he enjoys fishing when he can spare time away from his young family... you may even have spotted him once or twice fishing on Sky Sports!!!

Dan Martin – Building Contracts Manager

Dan Martin built our offices in Colchester, then we didn’t let him leave! We were so impressed with Dan's workmanship, organisation and general knowledge of the building and construction industry we offered him a job to open and manage our small building works division.

With over 20 years in the construction industry, Dan is also a qualified Site Manager which allow us to provide main contractor services safely and professionally for our end user clients.

Outside of work Dan is a family man and a keen footballer. He has also been the main act entertainment at each of our Christmas parties since joining us!

Ahmet Cemil – Technical Sales Manager

Ahmet was the very first engineer to join Newman Refrigeration, having worked in a previous employment with Rob Newman for many years. Ahmet has seen the business grow from a ‘one man band’ right through to where we are today, gaining invaluable experience and technical knowledge along the way.

Now our technical sales engineer, Ahmet supports our design and sales team, working our customers, existing and new, and our in-house designers to establish the perfect solution for each individual project. Efficient, Sustainable, Affordable and Engineering are just some of Ahmet’s middle names..

Ahmet is an expert family man and spends all spare time with his wife and kids, he enjoys jet-setting and exploring the world with family holidays and keeping fit in the gym.
